The insulating part is made of SF6 gas, porcelain sleeve, and other forms of transition connections. These insulating parts prevent the arc from spreading to other parts of the circuit and from touching the ground.

When the arc contacts separate due to high current or voltage, they activate blast valves and pressurized air is pushed through arc chutes. The arc is then extinguished, making the equipment safe. There are various types of ACBs that operate at different voltage capacities. For example, a plain ACB is designed for upstream side of the circuit while a magnetic blowout ACB is used on load side control. They also have different trip units such as thermal-magnetic and electronic. However, both serve the same function and are important safety devices for electrical systems.
