The Jordan Challenge mode first appeared in NBA 2K11 and, now in its 15th iteration, offers players a chance to recreate some of the defining moments from the career of the greatest player in NBA history. From his collegiate prowess to his dynastic run with the Chicago Bulls, its all here and its impressive how authentic each moment feels.
The highlights include a brutal battle with lockdown defender Gary Payton, who kept Jordan to a slugfest throughout the 1993 NBA Finals. But theres also the rematch between Jordan and his college rival, Patrick Ewing. These two heavyweights traded buckets for the ages at Madison Square Garden and, in NBA 2K23, you can replay their historic duel with a few clicks of a button. Its a testament to the games commitment to its heritage and a reason why it can earn 8.5 stars on ComingSoons review scale.
- The MyNBA Eras
NBA 2K23 has taken its franchise mode to a new level, with an all-new feature called MyNBA Eras. This feature allows players to travel back in time and play through specific eras of the league's history.
The first era available is the Magic vs Bird era, which puts players right in the middle of the storied rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. This era features classic teams such as the Lakers and Celtics, giving players the chance to see how they would fare in a legendary matchup between two of the best ever to compete in the NBA. The second era in MyNBA Eras is the Kobe era, which takes place in 2002, the year that Kobe Bryant began his superstar career. This era includes classic teams like the San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks, giving players the chance to see how their careers would have turned out if they had been drafted by different teams.
- The Game Modes
Whether you're a die-hard basketball fan or just someone who enjoys collecting virtual cards, NBA 2K23 is packed with a variety of game modes that can keep you busy for hours on end. Its MyTeam mode allows you to assemble a team of your choosing with players from any era and battle against other gamers online. Each player card is categorized into Gem Tiers which dictate their overall rating. Cards can then progress from Gold to Emerald, Pink Diamond, Galaxy Opal, and Dark Matter which is the most elite of all tiers.
Although the MyTeam mode gets a lot of flak for its purported pay-to-win nature, it's still an impressive feature that gives basketball fans and sports game enthusiasts plenty to keep themselves entertained. This year's Jordan Challenge mode also adds an extra layer of depth to the franchise. It includes 15 of Michael Jordan's most iconic moments from his career.
- The Graphics
Whether you prefer to drive the lane, back defenders in the post or spot up from behind the 3-point line, NBA 2k mt shooting gets some major upgrades this year. Each signature shot now has its own unique shooting attribute that helps to better replicate the performance of real-life players.
The era-specific graphics also allow for classic moments from Jordan's career to be recreated, with the court and announcers looking just like they would on CRT TV. Unfortunately, there's still no Moments card to honor Luka Doncic's 96-overall Galaxy Opal Triple-Double in a historic win against the Bulls.
There are a few settings that you can enable to improve your visuals, including the Anisotropic Filtering Level and Vertical Sync. The former is best for PCs, while the latter is recommended only on low-end PCs or laptops that struggle with lag or screen tearing. Both have a minor impact on the game's performance, but it is worth trying to find the right balance for your hardware.
